Rafael Mendes Gomes is a Senior Partner, leading GCIX Law Brazil. Throughout his career, he has held senior leadership positions in major corporations, including Director of Governance and Compliance at Petrobras, Director of Risk and Integrity at Novonor and OEC (formerly Odebrecht Group), and General Counsel, Legal Vice-President, and Chief Ethics & Compliance Officer at Walmart Brazil, making him one of the most experienced Compliance professionals in Latin America.

With more than 18 years of in-house experience and over a decade in private practice, Rafael has advised numerous companies on the design and implementation of compliance programs, internal investigations, and remediation measures, including matters related to Operation Lava Jato and cases involving the Brazilian Anti-Corruption Law and the U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA). His work has involved interactions with authorities and international institutions such as the U.S. Department of Justice, the Securities and Exchange Commission, the World Bank, and Brazil’s Office of the Comptroller General.
